Leeds’ Jordan Stevens has been banned from all football-related activity for six weeks to breaking Football Association gambling guidelines, a punishment his club has known as”disproportionate”.
The midfielder, 19, admitted responsible for putting season to 59 stakes, five matches between the Whites.
Stevens has been fined # 1,200 and is going to be frozen until 10.
“We are hugely disappointed in the FA’s decision of sanction,” said Leeds chief executive Angus Kinnear.
“To protect against a young footballer from taking part in any soccer activities at such a crucial period of the profession is a disproportionate punishment after a foolish mistake from a young participant.
“We are particularly disappointed that the sanction was decided by two former professional footballers that we hoped could have had a better understanding of the effect of their choice.”

“As a club we believe that attacking a 19-year-old footballer from participating in training or interacting with all the club team is an excessive punishment”
